PHOTOGRAPHER JOHN DOLAN

Photographer, John Dolan is hands down the master at capturing the joy and excitement of a wedding with his effortlessly exquisite style. Its been said that he, along with a handful of other photographers back in the mid-ninties, helped to change the aesthetic of wedding photography by doing away with the static poses and cheese-y smiles and taking a less planned approach. He captures intimate moments in a photojournalistic manner, but with an eye for beauty. Having photographed the weddings of many celebrities including Ben Stiller, Will Smith and Jennifer Lopez it says a lot that his client list also includes numerous high profile art directors and magazine editors who have quite a descerning eye for photography, including Darcy Miller. Many these clients liked both John and their wedding images so much that they hired him for hi profile advertising campaigns as well. John’s approach is exactly the opposite of planned which is as it should be. He has said that “The less hard I work toward making a picture and forcing it, the better they are.” Here are some of my favorite shots by John from the wedding of Matt Lauer to his stunning bride Annette.

MEL BARLOW PHOTOGRAPHY

Lately I have been enamoured by the work of the photographer Mel Barlow. While thumbing through my piles of wedding magazines several of her images have caught my eye. I am captivated by her stunningly fresh style and so I decided to look her up. It’s no surprise that her background is in fashion photography which is evident in the attention to detail and sense of design she brings to her wedding images. A member of the elite group of photographers, Elan Documentary, and based in both NY and San Francisco, you can check out more of her WPJA award winning work here

NYC WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER - FARNAZ K

I came across an amazing deal from NYC wedding photographer, Farnaz K via one of my favorite blogs, Perfect Bound . Farnaz is offering a very generous special for anyone getting married before March 31st. Her Luxury package, regularly priced at $4,000 (which in and of itself, in NYC, is a pretty good deal) is now only $2400(!!) and includes a complimentary engagement session and retouching of your wedding images. Faraz not only shoots weddings, but has also works as a fashion photographer shooting for Vogue and Elle as well as editorials for MSW and Brides. Take a look at some of her recent work…

PHOTOGRAPHER SPOTLIGHT - MIKI DUISTERHOF

I thought I would take a moment each week to highlight some of the wonderful photographers whose work we drool over in our favorite magazines month after month. As my 'day job' is 'in the biz' I actually happen to know some of these talented shooters and their photography quite well. Sadly, I don't get to work with them as often as I used to just due to the nature of the client I work with right now. However, I still take every opportunity I can to review (ie: drool over) their portfolios. First up, Miki Duisterhof. Miki travels frequently shooting beautiful stories often for Brides & Travel and Leisure among many other publications. Recently, I even had the opportunity to work with her on the design of her new promotional piece. Here's a sampling of a few of my favorite shots.

TARA GUERARD SOIREE EVENTS

I've been a huge fan of the amazingly talented event and wedding planner and author of Southern Weddings, Tara Guerard of Soiree Events for some time. I was so excited to read her guest feature at my favorite blog Style me Pretty where she has some great tips and beautiful ideas for brides. It's a must read. Tara's events are so well thought out and filled with thoughtful touches and creative details that are just right.

MEREDITH DAVENPORT

As I rarely have time to breathe on the day of a wedding, I shamefully tend to forget to take pictures and must wait the dreaded 5-6 weeks for the professional pictures. As I wait here patiently, I thought I would post about the photographer who shot Laura’s Bonnest Island wedding, Meredith Daenport from
Christian Oth Photographers. Meredith is a freelance photojournalist focusing her work mostly on issues involving human rights and social justice. Her images have appeared in National Geographic, The New York Times Magazine and Newsweek, just to name a few. Her work while fulfilling is needless to say quite sad. She told my bride that she shoots weddings as a reminder of the happier moments in life.

Here are a few shots from her wedding portfolio:

MY WEDDING

It was a beautiful day in May 2005 held at the charming Snuff Mill in the New York Botanical Gardens. I spent the first year of our engagement searching for venues that fit my very particular criteria. The process was hampered significantly by my teeny tiny (by NY standards) budget. I wanted good food...not "good wedding food", in addition to a historically charming location and good service. I couldn't believe my eyes when I stumbled across The Snuff Mill. It's an old house located about 1 mile into the grounds of the New York Botanical Gardens right on the Bronx River. It was lovely...
